The
Scarborough House Inn, located in the heart of Roanoke Island, is a
bed and breakfast that offers a visitor a touch of genuine Southern
warmth with both its native born-and-bred hosts and its handsome accommodations.
| Roanoke
Island is a unique brew of colorful history, remarkable beauty and
small-town charm. But as any seasoned traveler knows, it's the people
of a place who make a visit memorable. |
 |
It's
always the encounters we have with the native folks that we remember
most fondly, especially if we're fortunate enough to rock on their porch
while they reminisce about the real-life characters that sculpted the
region's rough-hewn identity.
The
inn has a comfortable living room and a porch with rocking chairs.
At the Scarborough House Inn, a tired traveler can cozy up in antique
post beds covered by handmade spreads, in rooms graced with gleaming
pine floors and authentic local artifacts. Sway in a bench swing surrounded
by clematis, canna lilies and a goldfish pond.
An
1850's settee, canopied beds, and an authentic antique Coast Guard chair
are just some of the touches that grace the five guest bedrooms. Much
of the furniture was refurbished by Phil, a talented woodworker who
also had a hand in designing and constructing much of the traditionally
styled Scarborough House itself. Original photographs of old Manteo
and the couple's ancestors dress the walls and pay homage to their roots
in Roanoke Island.
Simple
amenities in each room provide guests the best of all worlds: comfort,
privacy and service. Combined with the hospitality of the attentive
hosts, the Scarborough House will be a sure delight to a discerning
traveler.
Whether
it's your first or fifteenth stop on the Outer Banks, a stay at the
Scarborough House will provide the magic that will make your visit unforgettable.
